Amy Shadron is the newest member of the Project ONE team. She started working as an intern beginning in Spring 2017. Amy graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from James Madison University and has been working as a surgical stepdown Registered Nurse in Durham, NC since 2014. She started pursuing her Masters of Public Health with a focus on Maternal and Child Health at UNC-Chapel Hill in Fall 2016. Her interests lie in the prevention of chronic illness with an emphasis on childhood health and wellness and she believes school nurses play a vital role in these efforts. Her interests in school nursing in North Carolina (NC) and advocacy were sparked through a social work advocacy class and public health lecture on child health advocacy. Once learning that one nurse in every school wasn’t the norm in NC, staffing recommendations by the American Academy of Pediatrics were far from being met, and the positive health and economic impact of a school nurse, Amy knew she wanted to be involved in the work to advocate for more school nurses in NC.
