School Health Employees of the Guilford County Health and Human Services Department

Each Public School in Guilford County is visited by a school nurse 1-2 times per week.
Some nursing services provided in the schools include
- Monitoring of immunization compliance
- Identification and control of communicable diseases
- Communication between parents, health care providers and the school
- Developing school based care plans for students with chronic health conditions (ie diabetes, asthma)and potential emergency conditions (ie food or bee sting allergy)
- Training and monitoring of school staff who administer medication and perform special procedureswhen the nurse is not there
- Monitoring medications prescribed, changes to doses, and response (ie ADHD and diabeticmedications_
- Health screening of individuals and group for vision, dental, and acute care needs such as sickness orinjury
- Working with pregnant teens
- Helping families obtain a primary care provider for their child
- Working with students who have extended absences or hospital admissions
- Working with students with mental health and social problems
- Working with students who need a follow-up from an office visit (ie blood pressure check)As a healthcare provider you may refer school age patients for services in both High Point and Greensboro. A two-way consent signed by the parent or legal guardian is required when a referral is made to:
